I haven’t shared poetry on this blog before. But today, pivotal mid-term election, feels like the right moment to do so.
“'Declaration' of Agency & Unity” is an erasure poem made from the words of the Declaration of Independence. I worked with the language already there, bringing certain words and phrases forward to make a new declaration about shared responsibilities and the power we hold together. This is my voice. I hope you'll make yours heard at the polls.

It becomes necessary for one People
to declare, to secure their just Powers.
it is their Right,
it is their Duty,
To prove immediate and pressing Importance,
for the People at large,
our People,
Rule Our Governments
in all Cases whatsoever.
Citizens of all Ages, Sexes and Conditions.
a free PEOPLE.
We have the Voice of Justice
WE, FREE AND INDEPENDENT,
have full Power
to do all Things
which support each other our Lives,
our Fortunes,
and our Sacred Honor.
